We pick the most affordable radio hardware on the market, mass-produced, generally under a hundred euros, far from the price of a certified instrument. Once the device is bought, transmitting your position and receiving traffic costs nothing: no subscription.
The code that transmits your position, receives traffic and triggers the alarms is public. Anyone can read it, verify it, fix it and improve it. And it does not depend on the survival of one company: the firmware and its sources will remain available, whatever happens.
